The Lake District, Snowdonia and the Peak District
The Duke of Edinburgh provides equal opportunities to youth no matter their background, which is a culture we believe needs to be cultivated as widely as possible. Our mountain leaders prioritise working for the DofE because of our shared vision in empowering and supporting young people using adventure. We work as freelance trainers, and supervisors for Expedition section at all levels- bronze, silver and gold.
The expedition section consists of a practice expedition with training, followed by an assessed expedition. The youth are equipped with skills in navigation and map reading, first aid, route planning, outdoor cooking, and camping.
Youth come out of the Duke of Edinburgh with a newfound self-confidence and resilience. They are required to apply skills, adapt to unpredictable circumstances, and support each other overcome mental and physical barriers to finish as a group.
They gain both an empowering sense of independence, whilst also learning the importance of interdependence, collaboration, and communication within working as part of a team.
Adventure Unlocked is not only about physically creating opportunities for adventure, but also about unlocking the adventurer in people. The mindset of an adventurer in the mountains is one of humility as well as strength and resilience.
Adventure celebrates curiosity and creative thinking, it requires you to respect nature, to sacrifice personal goals for the benefit of others, to build others up, to communicate openly and respond with grace. Most people describe the feeling of being outside as feeling alive or better connected with the earth and others.
Through working with the youth from the Duke of Edinburgh, we hope to help them discover a deeper sense of joy that this life can offer and equip them to keep growing and adventuring. You may even spot our team with the youth doing their Duke of Edinburgh expedition!
