A 5-day walk through the heart of the Lake District

Described as one of the prettiest long -distance walks, The Cumbria Way takes us on a beautiful 5 day, 73 mile journey from Ulverston to Carlisle

22nd - 26th July

The Walk

Starting in Ulverston, the Cumbrian Way is one of Britain's prettiest and easiest long-distance walks. Passing through the heart of The Lakes, our 73 mile journey will give us opportunity to discover the beauty of Cumbria in a unique way.

Your guide will keep you safe and motivated as they help you unlock some of the rich history, geology and nature of this National Park. We will also look after the accommodation and train journey from Carlisle to Ulverston, all you need to do is enjoy yourself.

The Practicalities

Who is this for?

  • Anyone who is up for the challenge. We will be covering a lot of distance each day so hill walking experience and reasonable fitness are essential

How fit do I have to be? There is no escaping this is a tough challenge. We will be walking upto 8 hours a day, 5 days in a row. You do need to be fit enought to spend whole days in the moutnains.

Is there anything scary? All the walks are on good paths and within the comfort zone of most walkers.

What about the weather? This is England so it might well rain, having the right kit is key, so there is a kit list of essential equipment below. Unless the weather poses a risk to our safety, we will do the walks, but we might change them around a bit if it looking too bleak.

What equipment will I need? We have compiled a list of essential equipment for you, see the link below. Have a good read and if anything is causing concern drop us a line and we can work somethig out

Where will we be staying? We will be staying in a shared room in youth hostels & bunkhouse

Who will our guide be? Andy will be your guide for this challenge. He is a qulified Mountain Leader, 1st Aid trained and loves to share his passion for the mountains with others. He has spend many days walking the fells of the Lake District and can't wait to meet you.

What about food? Because of differing dietary needs we will be buying our own food. There will opportunity to buy lunch for each day.

Who else will be with me? We find one of the joys of adventures like this is sharing it with others, and whilst we might be strangers to start with, our hope is that we part as good friends. Andy, the leader, will meet each person online before the walk so you will have one familiar face, and don't foget we are doing this walk becuase of a common love of the outdoors.

22nd July Ulverston to Coniston

  • Distance: 15.5 miles (25km)

  • Ascent: 2017 feet (615m)

  • Accommodation: Youth Hostel

23rd July Coniston to Great Landale

  • Distance: 12 miles (19km)

  • Ascent: 1804 feet (550m)

  • Accommodation: Bunkhouse

​

24th July Great Langdale to Keswick

  • Distance: 16 miles (25km)

  • Ascent: 2116 feet (645m)

  • Accommodation: Youth Hostel

 

25th July Keswick to Caldbeck

  • Distance: 14.5 miles (23km)

  • Ascent: 2952 feet (900m)

  • Accommodation: Bunkhouse

​

26th July Caldbeck to Carlisle

  • Distance: 15.5 miles (25km)

  • Ascent: 295 feet (190m)

  • Train back to Ulverston
