The Wainwright 7
Challenge

7 of the Lake District's Highest Peaks over 3 Weekends

Alfred Wainwright wrote the ultimate guide to the Lake District over 7 volumes. We have created this unique challenge that takes on the highest peak from each book over three weekends.

Our professional guides will do all they can to help you complete the challenge, and enjoy it too

Weekend 1 - 13th & 14th May

Grasmoor

852m

Skiddaw

931m

Based in Keswick, our first peak out of the seven will be Grasmoor. Set in the North Western Fells this beauty of a mountain offers magnificent views across the northern Lakes, and why not do another two peaks on the way

After a good rest in Keswick, we take on the mighty Skiddaw, as it dominates the Northern Fell. This is the 4th highest peak in the Lake District and we will earn every meter, with stunning views as our reward (subject to the weather).

We will then take some time to recover as we prepare ourselves for our next peaks on our 2nd weekend.

Weekend 2 - 27th & 28th May

Helvellyn

950m

High Street

828m

After recovering from our first weekend we stride out onto High Street, a name which seems very out of place 828m high mountain, and is actually steeped in history. We will also throw in a couple of other Wainwright peaks just for the fun of it before we make our way to Patterdale for the night.

The following morning it's time to take on the 3rd highest peak in the Lake District, Helvellyn. Standing at 950m this beast demands a head for heights as we tackle the airy ridge of Striding Edge. Descending via the less exposed but equally scrambly Swirral Edge before we head home to brace ourselves for our final weekend, including Scafell Pike.

Weekend 3 - 10th & 11th June

Great Gable

899m

Scafell Pike

978m

High Raise

762m

Have we saved the best till last, that's for your to decide, but we have saved the biggest till last. Because if doing the highest peak in England wasn't enough, we thought we'd throw in Great Gable. There is no hiding from it, this will be the toughest walk of our challenge, and we will conquer it.

After a well earned rest in Keswick our final peak is High Raise. This is the  smallest peak of our challenge like a pimple compared to what we have done, yet we will have to dig into those reserves and summit this find peak (PS we will throw in another two peaks so we get value for money). All we have to do is get back to the cars with a huge grin on our faces and a well earned sense of pride.

How fit do I have to be? There is no escaping this is a tough challenge. We will be walking upto 8 hours a day on the Lake District's highest peaks. You do need to be fit enought to spend whole days on the moutnains.

What about the weather? This is England so it might well rain, having the right kit is key, so there is a kit list of essential equipment below. Unless the weather poses a risk to our safety, we will do the walks, but we might change them around a bit if it looking too bleak.

Where will we be staying? We have booked a room in a Youth Hostel for us to share each Saturday night we are walking. This is included in the price. However, a Youth Hostel isn't everyone's cup of tea, so feel free to book your own accommodation. Let us know and we can reduce the price accordingly.

Is there anything scary? All the walks are within the comfort zone of most walkers. However Striding Edge can feel high and exposed so a head for heights is needed. There is also some scrambling up to Helvellyn which can un-nerve some people. The rest of the walks are more straightforward

What equipment will I need? We have compiled a list of essential equipment for you, see the link below. Have a good read and if anything is causing concern drop us a line and we can work somethig out

What about food? Because of differing dietary needs we will be buying our own food. There will opportunity to buy lunch for each day.

Who will our guide be? Andy will be your guide for this challenge. He is a qulified Mountain Leader, 1st Aid trained and loves to share his passion for the mountains with others. He has spend many days walking the fells of the Lake District and can't wait to meet you.
