Glyder Fawr via Senior's Gully

Service Description

A technical scramble for those wanting to explore the wilder mountaineering experience! Starting from Idwal Cottage our first short ascent takes us to the shores of Llyn Idwal, a crystal clear tarn surrounded by mountains. From here we make our way along the shore ready to ascend Seniors Gully. The scramble is grade 2 with sections of grade 3. It requires some mountain confidence and some experiencein the hills. However, it is accessible to most experienced walkers and it's pumped with adventurous spirit! We continue our ascent with a final push to get to the summit of Glyder Fawr, one of the highest peaks in Snowdonia. The effort it well worth it with views across the Ogwen Valley to the north, and the Snowdon mountain range to the south. Continuing past Castell y Gwynt (Castle of the Winds) we will make our way to Y Gribin ridge. Here starts our descent, with some grade one scrambling down the Gribin ridge. A spectacular sight with a panoramic view of 3 tarns. The path continues its descent into the Ogwen Valley and eventually to the cars. Hopefully the little café is still open for a well earned hot drink and piece of cake after our big mountain day The distance is approximately 7 kilometres/5 miles, with a height gain of 727 metres/2285feet.
